Universal Orlando has purchased another large chunk of land as it continues to expand.

  • Universal purchases additional 101 acres
  • Likely to be used of future theme park expansions
  • Universal recently opened Volcano Bay

The 101 acres is located along Sand Lake Road, adjacent to the 475 acres of undeveloped property Universal purchased in December 2015. That land is just north of Universal Boulevard.

Universal confirmed the purchase in an email Monday.

“We are excited for the future, but have no additional details to share now,” Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder said in statement.

The $27.5 million acquisition gives Universal more than 570 acres to work with for its new theme park projects. However, Universal has not shared what it plans to do with the additional land.

Universal shuttered Wet 'n Wild in 2016, before revealing plans to add a new hotel to the property.

This summer, Universal added a “third theme park” with the opening of Volcano Bay. The company has also experienced recording-breaking attendance since the addition of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando and at Universal Studios Hollywood in California.

Last November, Universal announced that a Nintendo-themed land is planned for Orlando. A specific timeframe for the new land has not been shared.
