Universal Orlando has filed documents with the city of Orlando to use the former Wet 'n Wild property for hotel development.

The documents call the proposed plans a "framework master plan" to redevelop the 50-plus acre site.

A sketch included with the filing shows an area of Precision Drive that would be vacated for the hotel development. It also shows plans for three parking structures.

An aerial map also included in the filing shows an outline of where the hotel would be constructed.

Wet 'n Wild, which opened in 1977, closed its doors in December, and demolition of the park has been ongoing.

Universal is set to open its new water park, Volcano Bay, on May 25.

The new hotel will join a growing number of hotels at Universal that include the new Sapphire Falls Resort and the upcoming Aventura Hotel, which is planned for 2018.
