About 500 students were evacuated from St. Cloud Elementary School on Thursday after a brush fire ignited in the woods near the school.

Firefighters responded to the area of Canoe Creek Road and Drema Lane just after 2 p.m, according the St. Cloud Fire Department.  

Authorites said a downed power line started the fire that spread to 36.9 before it was contained at about 5 p.m..

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

Firefighters remain at the scene to monitor hot spots and potential flair ups.

Students were taken to Peghorn Park for safety precautions. They were dismissed at 3:20 p.m.

Osceola and Orange County Fire Rescue units, the Kissimmee Fire Department and Florida Division of Forestry responded to the scene.
