  • Will soon be featured in the Jungala area of the park
  • Being cared for by mother Luna and animal care team

The male orangutan weighs about 3 pounds and will soon be featured in the Jungala area of the park.

For now, the newborn is being cared for by its mother, Luna. The animal care team is also closely monitoring.

Busch Gardens is asking the public to help name the little guy through a Facebook poll set to launch Nov. 16.

Bornean orangutans are critically endangered, according to Busch Gardens. Their populations have declined by more than 50 percent in the past 60 years. The species is threatened by rapid deforestation.

The birth is part of Busch Gardens’ partnership with the Associate of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan.
