  • Participants learn life skills; what it takes to be an officer

The Winter Haven Police Explorer Post 583 provides participants with law enforcement experience from veteran police officers.

Participants will learn life skills, find out what a career in law enforcement is all about, and work as part of a team. Participants will also learn about traffic stops, crime scene investigation, criminal law, patrolling, proper weapon safety and more -- all through classwork as well as practical application.

To become an Explorer you must be between the ages of 14 and 21, have not been convicted of a serious crime, not have any medical or physical disabilities that would limit participation or place the program and other members in jeopardy of civil liability, maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA in school, and be willing to abide by the rules of the Post.

Anyone interested in the program should call Inspector Steve Rusich at 863-837-5780.
