A judge has denied bail for a Lake County father accused of drowning his 17-month-old toddler in a bathtub.

Jeremy Main is being held on no bond here at the Lake County Jail and he will be assigned a public defender.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says the 38-year-old called his wife and confessed he had killed their 17-month-old daughter after drowning her in the bathtub.

"For someone to be able to do something like that is just mind boggling. You know, 20 years in this job it’s hard to believe a person can lose their humanity and do something like this," said Sgt. Fred Jones of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office

Main then turned himself in to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office substation. Neighbors in Lady Lake say the couple kept to themselves.

"I've seen him out here he always seemed friendly enough, friendly waves, the baby seemed happy, he seemed happy. I'm pretty furious this happened. I mean it was a 17-month-old baby. Who would do this?" said Deirdre Holloway.

Detectives are still searching for a motive, but believe Main and his wife were having marital issues. The couple has two other teenage children, but the teens are the wife's children, not his. They were both in school at the time.

Main is charged with first-degree murder.

His next court appearance will be Monday, Nov. 6, 2017.
