A lockdown at Carver Middle School has been lifted after following a nearby shooting on Friday morning on Griffin Road, according to Lake County Schools.

  • Shooting did not happen at the school
  • Incident happened hours before school started

Leesburg Police Department and crime scene investigators from Lake County Sheriff's Office are currently processing the scene where the shooting took place, which happened hours before school started and does not involved the school.

Sherri Owens, communications officer for the school district, told Spectrum News 13 that the middle school's lockdown has been lifted.

Earlier in the day, school buses were also rerouted to the bus storage lot off of Center Street and parents could pick their children up there.

Leesburg Police Department stated the incident started when two men were fighting in a parking lot of a convenience store when one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other several times. 

The man who was shot went into his vehicle and fled the area while the other man left on foot, according to police.
