An investigation continues after a Brevard County deputy shot and killed a would-be robber Sunday night in Cape Canaveral.

The shooting happened at about 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Palms East Apartments located on Caroline Street.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said 19-year-old Trevor Gingras approached someone who lives at the complex and tried to rob him.
The person was able to get to his apartment and call 911, deputies said.
Deputies arrived to the scene and spotted Gingras, who reportedly turned toward them when he was confronted and pointed a gun in their direction.
Lt. Michael Green fired his agency-issued firearm, striking Gingras. He was taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he died.
Green, a 25-year veteran of the force, has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
"The victim was actually confronted right near his home, the robber demanded money, produced a gun, was demanding the money and the intended victim was able to quickly get inside and alert us to what was taking place," Ivey said Sunday night.
