If you are lucky enough to be off for spring break next week or if you know someone coming into town, luck is on your side: We have potentially two launches scheduled for the Space Coast.

  • Space Coast may see 2 rocket launches next week
  • 1 is ISS cargo mission, other is communications satellite
  • RELATED: Destination Space

The first, by United Launch Alliance, is the launch of an Atlas V rocket no earlier than Monday, March 27. The time has not been announced. It will launch from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 41. This will be Orbital ATK’s seventh commercial resupply services mission to the International Space Station. ULA is currently troubleshooting a hydraulic issue, but once launched, the Atlas V will carry a Cygnus cargo spacecraft with 7,600 pounds of supplies and research for the ISS crew.

The weather looks good for Monday.

The second launch, by SpaceX, is a Falcon 9 rocket with the SES 10 communications satellite. The launch is scheduled for Wednesday, March 29, and the window lasts from 4:59 p.m.-7:29 p.m. It will take off from historic Pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center. The SES 10 satellite will provide TV broadcasting and other telecommunication services for Central and South America, including Mexico and the Caribbean. It will also help cover oil and gas exploration crews off the coast of Brazil.
