A child riding his bicycle in Ocala was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon and was taken to a hospital as a trauma alert, according to Ocala Fire Rescue's Facebook post.

At around 4:23 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue arrived at Northeast 8th Avenue and Northeast 10th Street where they found the child conscious and breathing and the driver of the vehicle nearby, the fire rescue company stated.

The child was taken to an area hospital.

No additional information was provided.

The company provided safety information in its Facebook post. 

"According to the Center for Disease Control, Children (5-14 years), adolescents, and young adults (15-24 years) have the highest rates of nonfatal bicycle-related injuries, accounting for more than one-third of all bicycle-related injuries seen in U.S. emergency departments," according to Ocala Fire Rescue's Facebook post.
