They’re not the faces you would expect to find at a Friday happy hour. Wet noses, long tongues and hairy legs.

On the third Friday of the month, pups in Lake County get together for, well … a little drink.

"It's all about the dogs,” shared Carla Pereira, the organizer of "Yappy Hour."

For the past eight years as the sun sets, a corner of downtown Mt. Dora goes to the dogs. Yappy Hour takes place on the third Friday every month.

"It's a good night out for people to bring their dogs, bring their kids, said Carla.

Pereira, co-owner of pet supply boutique “Piglet's Pantry,” puts on the event with “The Wine Den” down the street.

"We really are very much dog friendly,” said Cary Polkovitz of The Wine Den, as dogs come and go from his shop with their owners.

Dogs here are allowed inside the wine shop during Yappy Hour. Meantime, folks and their pooches stroll the sidewalk outside, openly sipping wine and water.

"Like every place in Mt. Dora, we have the dish outside for the water for them to drink,” Cary shared.

In the street, a photographer sets up, ready to snap pictures and print them in a strip, like you would find in a photo booth.

"First picture! Go ahead and look right here at the camera,” the photographer asks people and their dog.

Don't have a four-legged friend?  Some bring others hungry for attention. Even pigs on leashes show up here.

Besides the adult beverages and the cookies for the dogs, there's also a community aspect to Yappy Hour. Several dog rescue organizations will bring out dogs looking for a new home or who need a foster home.

"It's kinda hard not to be happy in a place where all the dogs are coming in,” Cary concluded. "I get to be scratched and kissed by all of them, which is great."
