A Flagler County woman shot her husband in the head, buried the body and used moth balls to cover up the odor, deputies said Tuesday.

Investigators said 52-year-old Dorothy Singer never reported her husband was missing and had been living at the home where his body was found in April.

Singer did not say one word as she was brought into the Flagler County jail Tuesday, as reporters questioned her about being accused of killing her husband.

Deputies said she's responsible for the murder of her legally blind and disabled husband, 48-year-old Charles William Singer, also known as "Butch."

"When you see what our detectives did, to take it from a missing person, to proving that it was a murder, to making an arrest, this case is made for a "Dateline" episode," said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly.

Staly said the victim was found wrapped up and buried underneath a boat at their home. Staly said Singer was shot four times in the head and once in the chest in the master bedroom sometime between February and April.

The sheriff said the victim's body was in a camouflage tarp and found on top of a pillow and comforter. Moth balls were reportedly used to cover up the smell, and tree debris was piled on top of the boat.

In the sheriff's office's report, Charles Singer's sister said she tried to repeatedly to reach him around Feb. 8, and received messages that seemed odd but she said she had no actual voice contact with her brother since January.

She said text messages and Facebook messages were sent to her. But she told detectives her brother always used the "talk to text feature" on the phone because he was legally blind. The most recent texts didn't add up, according to the report.

The report said he missed work the same days, Feb. 8 and 9, that Dorothy Singer also missed work. Then a witness reportedly said Singer told them her husband had "put his hands on her again." The report said she told the victim to go to jail or move out. But the report states, his bank cards and phone was still in use, pinged near his wife.

Deputies said they tracked her transactions at different stores and found the items purchased used to cover his body at the home.

On March 23, the victim's sister filed a missing persons report, and by April 7 deputies discovered the body.

"She made a bunch of inconsistent statements that led the investigation to where we're at today," said one of the investigators at a news conference Tuesday.

Investigators said they kept their eyes on her and caught her just as she crossed the county lines late Monday afternoon. She was booked into the St. Johns County Jail until she was transported back to Flagler County Wednesday.

Deputies said they found evidence that she had planned to fake her own death.

The investigation is still ongoing but the sheriff said they recovered a gun that matched the bullets used to allegedly kill her husband. Lastly, the report stated that Dorothy's sister said Dorothy had her gun for about a year, and returned it to her about two months ago.

Investigators said Singer never reported her husband missing. The day the body was found, three people living in the home, including Singer, were all questioned. The sheriff said they are still following up leads in this case.

"We want to make sure that she didn't have assistance by anyone else to perpetrate this crime or help cover it up," said Staly.

Staly mentioned the suspect had two husbands prior to this marriage, one who is confirmed dead.

Singer had her first appearance in St. John's County and will face a judge in Flagler Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.
