Alexis Day said she wants to go to Red Hot & Boom in Altamonte Springs, but she said the idea of big crowds makes her concerned about her safety.

"I do get a little bit hesitant, especially being in such large crowds," Day said.

Altamonte Springs Police said Red Hot & Boom is the city's largest security detail of the year, and officials are meeting daily to review security procedures for the annual concern and fireworks shows.

Some of the measures are old; others are new.

"Just making sure that all of those ideas of how we can better secure the event are out there, and we've implemented some of those ideas, as well," said Evelyn Estevez, a spokeswoman with the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

Like in years past, roads will be closed in and around Cranes Roost Park. Police will set up a perimeter and require everyone to go into the event through one entrance.

Law enforcement officials also remind people of the simple — but important — saying: If you see something, say something.

"So, it's based on your instincts as a person," Estevez said. "Obviously, what seems suspicious to you may not be suspicious to me, but if something doesn't feel right or you get that gut feeling that something is wrong."

With loud music and fireworks, a phone call may be difficult to make. Altamonte Springs Police said people can text 407-634-2478 to report any suspicious activity.

"They can at least text this number and say, 'Hey, I'm at this location. This seems suspicious,'" Estevez said.

Melbourne Police said they have an operations plan in effect to keep people safe for their large fireworks show. Sanford Police said they will be bringing in extra off-duty officers.

State and federal law enforcement officers will be at Red Hot & Boom to assist Altamonte Springs Police.

"Once I know there's going to be precautions taken to the full extent, that makes me feel more safe and confident to be able to experience the Red Hot & Boom here," Day said.
