Authorities say Scott Mitchell was arrested in Lake County Tuesday afternoon, a week after the incident.

Lake County authorities say he was taken to a hospital in Clermont after complaining of injuries from the incident and will be booked into the Lake County Jail.

According to police, Mitchell drove his 2004 Chevy Colorado into a marked Windermere Police patrol SUV at the entrance of a Hardees on State Road 50 in Ocoee around 7:33 a.m. on July 11.

Police say Mitchell’s Colorado broadsided the police vehicle. Officials said Sgt. Mark Destefano is doing OK, but is a bit sore and stiff from the crash.

Investigators say after the crash Mitchell left the scene of the accident and an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy noticed Mitchell's truck recklessly driving down State Road 50.

Police say Mitchell hit another vehicle, then ditched his Chevy Colorado near Pine Hills. He was able to avoid capture.

The deputy was able to positively identify Mitchell as the driver of the vehicle. Mitchell has a history with police from both Orange and Lake Counties.

Mitchell is now facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
