The Sanford Police Department is investigating two separate shootings early Tuesday morning that left two people with gunshot wounds to the chest, but one of the men has died, officials said.

  • Police stressed that the 2 shootings not related
  • At one scene the suspect was at large
  • At second shooting, the suspect was caught

Police arrived at the Wyndham Place Apartments 8302 Wyndham Crest Blvd., where at around 2:45 a.m. they found a man in life-threatening condition after being shot in the chest, officials described.

However, the man has died of his injuries at the Central Florida Regional Hospital, police said.

A suspect is in custody for that shooting, but police have not released any information about the case other than the suspect, a woman and the person who died got into an altercation.

An earlier shooting happened at 2:24 a.m., where police found a 26-year-old man at 2212 Mitch West Court in critical, but stable condition after suffering a gunshot to the chest, police stated. He was transported as a trauma-alert patient to Central Florida Regional Hospital.

Police stated that a suspect is still at large and no description was given.

The police stressed that the two shootings are not related.
