When you live in Florida there is no shortage of warm days. But with summer officially here we’ve been experiencing some of the hottest days to date.

  • Air conditioning technicians busiest during summer
  • Frequent problems include short wires and lose connections
  • Technician recommends biannual maintenance checks

That’s left many air condition repair shops swamped with calls for service.

“Everyone wants their air conditioning fixed ASAP; it’s a challenge in the summer time,” Mike Allen, CEO of Comfort Air said.

“Guys right now are doing anything from four to six calls a day, and that can take up to two hours a call. So you can see it’s a long day for the guys,” Allen said.

Some of the more frequent problems they check for are shorts in wires or lose connections that could lead damage or electrical fires; even small animals climbing inside the air conditioning units.

Brad Hamann is no stranger to the heat and the problems that come with it. As a technician, he’s spends his days outside repairing units.

“If you have ants, lizards or frogs climbing in here, that is their final destination sadly, and it can cause damage to the electrical components,” Hamann said.

While not all problems are preventable, they do recommend biannual maintenance checks. They say it could save the homeowner money and time down the line.

“You can reduce the possibility of something happening,” said Hamann.

“While we do these maintenance checks, if we find something loose, that may cause a safety concern. We can get that taken care of before it leaves you stranded on a 96-degree day,” Hamann expressed.

The company also wants homeowners to be wary of scams and cheap repairs and fixes. They say an average maintenance repair should cost between $65 to $125.
