With very few showers and storms over the next couple of days, now is a good time to remember hot weather precautions.

🌞 Never leave children or pets alone in vehicles. Even when your car is parked in the shade, the inside temperature can soar quickly. Just last year, vehicular heat strokes killed 39 people, according to KidsandCars.org.

🌞 Stay hydrated throughout the day. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. You should also avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol in them.

🌞 Avoid extreme temperature changes. They put a strain on your body.

🌞 Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.

🌞 Slow down and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day. Staying inside with air conditioning is safest.

🌞 Delay outdoor games and activities until the cooler parts of the day.

🌞 Avoid working outdoors alone during excessive heat and take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.

🌞 Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning.

🌞 Check on your animals frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat. Always have a fresh supply of water handy for them.
