Nighttime closures of I-4 to begin Monday due to construction

Nighttime closures of I-4 and SR 408 are scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 28, due to significant construction operations.

Beginning at 12 a.m. Monday, the construction will affect nighttime traffic patterns on westbound and eastbound I-4 through downtown Orlando. 

Eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) from Gore Street to State Road (S.R.) 408 is closing from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. on August 28-September 1. Motorists must exit eastbound I-4 at South Street (Exit 82B), and then travel northbound on Garland Avenue to reenter eastbound I-4. Law enforcement officers will be monitoring each signaled intersection on the detour route of Garland Avenue between South Street and Colonial Drive (S.R. 50) to promote traffic flow.

During the operation, the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp from eastbound S.R. 408 and the eastbound I-4 exit ramp to Amelia Street also will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on August 27-September 1. The eastbound I-4 entrance ramps from Anderson Street and westbound S.R. 408 will remain open.

On westbound I-4, rolling roadblocks are scheduled between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. for two consecutive nights beginning on August 28. Multiple rolling roadblocks are scheduled to occur each night. Each rolling roadblock will create a 30-minute window for crews to place girders for a new overpass at Florida’s Turnpike.

Westbound I-4 entrance ramps between Par Street and Florida’s Turnpike will be temporarily blocked. As the rolling roadblock passes each interchange, law enforcement officers will reopen its entrance ramp. Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.

The I-4 Ultimate project is rebuilding 21 miles of Interstate 4 (I-4) from west of Kirkman Road in Orange County to east of State Road 434 in Seminole County, adding two new dynamic tolled Express Lanes in each direction, replacing more than 140 bridges, reconfiguring 15 major interchanges and reconstructing the entire roadway.
