The Jan. 19 shooting in Sanford that involved a 17-year-old boy might have been a result of an accidental firearm discharge, police say.

The incident happened at 1314 Olive Avenue, police say. Officers responded to the scene at 3.32 p.m. and found Roland Medlock suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers say they saw a handgun in Medlock’s hands when they found him.

Medlock was transported to an area hospital for his gunshot wound.

The investigation is still ongoing, however, authorities say the initial investigation shows there was an accidental discharge.

Sanford investigators say they’re not looking for any additional people connected to the incident.
