PROJECT WEATHER SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

Spectrum Bay News 9 is proud to present the Project Weather Scholarship Contest. A $1,000 check will be awarded to seven high school seniors in public, private or parochial schools who excel in science.

The $1,000 check will be presented at Spectrum Bay News 9. The scholarship is granted as a part of Bay News 9's commitment to educating children about science and weather.

Each eligible student will be asked to provide the following:

  • Completed Application
  • Written Essay
  • Letter of Recommendation from a current high school teacher
  • Current copy of high school transcript for proof of GPA

PROJECT WEATHER ACTIVITY BOOK

We developed the Project Weather Activity Book to answer common weather-related questions and turn them into fun, educational puzzles for kids.

They are given out at hurricane expos and weather related events.

Spectrum Bay News 9 viewers can call 727-329-2300 to receive a free copy.

PROJECT WEATHER PRESCHOOL BOOK

The Project Weather Preschool Book introduces weather words and concepts for preschool age children (3+) and are designed for parents to work together with their children.

These books are distributed to public libraries and preschools and are given out at community eents. Libraries, preschools or viewers can call 727-329-2300 to receive free books while supplies last.

WEATHER WEDNESDAYS

Every Wednesday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., for 30 minutes a Spectrum Bay News 9 Meteorologist gives students a chance to ask their weather questions in a live video conference with your class.

STUDIO TOURS

Spectrum Bay News 9 is not accepting reservations for studio tours at this time.  Thank you for understanding. 

Studio tours are given to organized groups on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Visitors must be at least 9 years old. Groups should have at least six people but no more than 20. To schedule a studio tour call 727-329-2300. No walk-ins.

Great Explorations

Great Explorations Children's Museum is Tampa Bay's first children's museum supporting a safe, hands on practical learning environment. 

Bay News 9 Project Weather is at the Great Explorations Children's Museum in St. Petersburg!

Kids can play with and learn about the water cycle.  Plus they can put on a Bay News 9 blazer and get in front of the chroma key wall to report the news while others watch -them on the tv monitor.  

The museum is located at 1925 Fourth Street North with plenty of free parking.  You can also book birthday parties at the museum.   Call 727-821-8992.

EXPLORATIONS V CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

Explorations V Children's Museum in Lakeland is home to a replica of a working TV news station. Complete with anchor desk, weather maps and camera, children can put on a Bay News 9 blazer and re-enact severe weather news situations.

Brought to the museum by Bay News 9, the exhibit provides hands-on learning for children and their families.

The museum is located at 109 North Kentucky Avenue, Lakeland.  Host your birthday party at the greatest place in town.  863-687-3869

Bay News 9 Rain or Shine!

The Glazer Children's Museum in downtown Tampa is a fun-filled learning adventure. The mission of the museum is to create learning environments where children play, discover and connect to the world around them to develop as lifelong learners and leaders.

The Bay News 9 Rain or Shine exhibit does just that. Kids can make it rain, lightning and thunder, while learning about weather and the weather cycle.

The museum is located 1t 110 W. Gasparilla Plaza in Tampa. You can also book Birthday Parties with the museum. Hourly parking is available in the Poe Garage at Ashley and Cass Streets. The musem can be reached at 813-443-3861.
