Bill Murphy, Everyday Hero Reporter
Bill Murphy has been a familiar face to Tampa Bay area TV viewers for over 25 years.
Bill came here from Monterey California in 1985 to host "Murphy In The Morning", an Emmy-nominated daily morning talk show on WTSP-TV Channel 10. The 1,600 shows ran almost seven years as Bill welcomed about 3,000 guests.
From there Bill became a host on The Home Shopping Network. He then joined Fox-13 as the original Host of "Good Day Tampa Bay." In over 13 years there Bill served as news anchor as well as movie reviewer and travel reporter.
His popular "One Tank Trip" series was turned into three best-selling books which to date have sold over a quarter of a million copies.
Bill joined Brighthouse/Bay News 9 in June of 2009 on a part-time basis. His "On Demand" series included "Murphy"s Hotspots" and "Murphy's Journal." Additionally Bill has been a fill-in anchor at Bay News 9.
In June of 2011 Bill began reporting on a weekly Bay News 9 series, "Everyday Heroes".
Born and raised in new York City, Bill spent four years at Northern Michigan University as a Speech major (with an emphasis in Drama) and an English minor.
He spent four years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Philippines for two of those years.
He recently traveled across the country by train, his favorite mode of transportation. He hopes to see Canada by train soon.
Bill has one daughter and two cats and is quick to point out that none of them listen to him.
He enjoys reading, tennis, walking, biking, and disc-golf. He also enjoys long walks on the beach if there's pizza waiting at the end of the walk.
