  • Will have surgery, out for the season
  • Head coach Jimbo Fisher to hold press conference Monday

The report states that the former Olympia High School and IMG Academy standout will have surgery as soon as Tuesday to treat a patella tendon injury in his left knee.

Florida State officials say that Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher will address the Francois situation in his press conference on Monday.

Francois was hurt in the fourth quarter of FSU’s 24-7 loss to top-ranked Alabama in the Seminoles opening game of the 2017 season in Atlanta on Saturday night.

The redshirt sophomore Heisman trophy candidate landed awkwardly after being hit by Crimson Tide safety Ronnie Harrison and was helped off the field without being able to put any weight on his left leg.

He was then treated in a medical tent on the sideline before emerging with crutches and a brace on his leg before being carted out of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Francois is likely to be granted another redshirt season due to the fact that the injury took place in the opening game of the season.

Freshman James Blackman finished the Alabama game for the Seminoles, and Fisher indicated in his post game press conference that Blackman would get the first crack at the starting job if Francois was to miss time.

The 6-foot-5 Blackman was a three-star recruit out of Glades Central High School, and he had an impressive fall camp to earn the backup job behind Francois.

Francois looked sharp early in the Alabama game and finished 19-33 for 210 yards with 1 touchdown pass and two interceptions.

He threw for 3,350 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a redshirt freshman.

Francois was expected to lead the third-ranked Seminoles into national title contention this season, so losing him for the season will be a huge hurdle for FSU to overcome.
