The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run that left a Pasco County man clinging to life.

Anthony Georgianna, 46, was riding his bicycle through the crosswalk at the intersection of Fox Hollow Drive and Regency Park in Port Richey at about 9:30 a.m. when he was hit by a car, investigators said.

Georgianna was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital, where he is now on life support. He is not expected to survive.

Georgianna's wife, Michelle, said he was on his way back from the store where he was picking up breakfast for their family.  When he didn't return, she said she went out looking for him and came across the crash scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol is now looking for a female driver who they said knowingly left the scene.

"The female got out, spoke to some witnesses, made a comment about, 'Hey, I'll be right back,'" Sgt. Steve Gaskins said. "(She) has not reappeared or contacted law enforcement, so our investigation into this crash continues and we are searching for this driver."

Investigators describe the driver as standing about 5-feet-5, between the ages of 23 and 28 and wearing her brown hair in a ponytail. They said the woman had a child passenger with her at the time, and that there will most likely be damage to the hood and driver's side of the car.

Witnesses said the vehicle was a four-door Pontiac that was either dark green or turquoise. The partial license plate number of the car will either be "711" or "7II."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol immediately.
