The city of Inverness is getting ready to launch two new electric vehicle service stations.

The stations should be online and ready for use in a few days, officials said. They can be used by any hybrid or electric vehicle.

According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the Citrus County Chronicle, officials said they hope the new EVS stations, which are installed in the Inverness Government Center parking lot, will appeal to "green-minded" tourists.

The charging stations were put in place courtesy of Duke Energy and a federal stimulus grant from the Department of Energy.

Duke Energy will monitor the EVS units through April 2013. Ownership of the units will then transfer to the city.
