Two seniors at Tampa's Wharton High School are facing charges for allegedly selling marijuana-laced cookies and brownies.

Deputies arrested them Wednesday morning on school grounds after an anonymous tip led them to the teens.

The first student had two individually wrapped brownies that tested positive for the drug. The second student had five individually wrapped cookies that each tested positive for marijuana.

Deputies don't know if any sales were made prior to the arrests.

Parents who learned of the arrests said they were concerned.

"That ain't good," parent Keith Hopkins said. "No pot. No drugs in the school."

Another parent, Nicole Passante, says she’s things like this are bound to happen.

"I'm glad that they caught them and I'm glad somebody turned them in but, you know, it is what it is,” said Passante. “What can you do?"

"They need to keep the brownies at home,” said David Robinson, another parent. “Pot brownies at school? No, that wouldn't work."

Bay News 9 tried getting reaction from the principal of the school but he referred us to a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County School District.
He told Bay News 9 that they are taking this very seriously since it is a crime, and that they will take appropriate action and discipline those students involved.

Both teens are charged with possession and delivery of marijuana on school grounds. They were taken to the juvenile assessment center.

Bay News 9 is not naming the teens in accordance with our crime guidelines, as both of the students are under the age of 18.
