Drivers of electric cars can now take advantage of reserved parking at the Pinellas County Courthouse in downtown Clearwater.

The city partnered with Progress Energy to set up two designated charging stations in the west parking lot by the courthouse. The spaces are reserved for electric cars only.

The recharging stations are part of a program to install charging stations in Progress Energy's service area.  Progress Energy maintains the spaces, while the property owner supplies the electricity.  At the end of the pilot period, the equipment is turned over to the owner.

Progress plans to install 50 charging stations within their service area.  Thirty of those will be in Pinellas County, and many of them have already been installed.
