A man and a woman are dead after a shooting early Sunday morning in Oldsmar, and the woman's son has been charged with their murders, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

According to Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, 18-year-old Benjamin Kenya Bishop didn't like his mother's live-in boyfriend, who was his former swim coach in the Westchase area, and had a history of confrontation with his mother.

Bishop called 911 just after 1:30 a.m. and waited for deputies to arrive at the home he shared with the victims on the 200 block of Cedar Key Court, Gualtieri said. Deputies found Kelley Allen, 49, and Imari Shibata, shot dead.

"When deputies arrived, (Bishop) had placed the shotgun he used to shoot them on the couch,"  Gualtieri said. "He was standing in the doorway, and he surrendered to deputies."

The victims had awakened just before Bishop used a shotgun to fire four rounds each into each of them while they were still in their bed, investigators said.

Gualtieri said Bishop has a history of drug use and mental health problems and recently spent 10 months receiving inpatient treatment for addiction to bath salts and other drugs. He was released in September and moved back in with his mother and Allen.

"There appears to have been a triggering event (Saturday)," Gualtieri said. "(Bishop's) mother told him he needed to make sure he was taking his medication, needed to get a job and needed to start paying rent.

"Apparently, Benjamin became very upset with his mother because he didn't like the medication. He felt the medication was killing him, so he decided he was going to kill his mother and her boyfriend."

Bishop obtained the shotgun by pawning electronics, Gualtieri said. Because he is on probation stemming from another domestic incident with his mother, Bishop had a friend buy the gun.

Shibata was a certified nursing assistant, according to jail records. Allen is listed as swim coach for the West Chase Community Association.
