A judge denied bond to 18-year-old Ben Bishop during his first appearance on Monday.
Bishop is charged with shooting and killing his mother and her boyfriend on Sunday morning in Oldsmar.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, Kelley Allen and his 49-year-old girlfriend Imari Shibata were shot in their bed by Shibata’s 18-year-old son.
The 49-year-old Allen was an accomplished swim coach for the West Chase Community Association, who touched the lives of thousands of kids in the Tampa Bay area.
The President of the Westchase Homeowners Association expressed his sadness on behalf of dozens of kids and their parents.
“He was a special person that reached their kids on a very personal level,” said Joaquin Arrillaga, Board President of the Westchase Homeowners Association. “Sadly he was one of the most impressive people that we will ever meet.”
Westchase residents like Arrillaga said the coach had a passion for swimming and the kids he taught.
“There’s nothing quiet about him, he would be running through the pool telling his kids about the strokes, pushing them forward," he said.
The people at Westchase say the swimmers are taking it especially hard. They are struggling with the fact their coach who meant so much to their lives is gone.
“He was an all-around guy and more important than that an all-around friend,” Arrillaga said.
Swimming events and practices have been cancelled at the Westchase pool.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says Ben Bishop has a history of drug abuse and Schizophrenia.
The Sheriff also says he has been in trouble before for domestic abuse against his mother.
