A teenage girl who deputies say gave birth to a baby, then strangled him will be charged as an adult.

Cassidy Goodson, 14, is facing charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

The Kathleen High student was arrested last week after the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a call about the baby, who was found inside a shoebox in the girl's room.

Investigators said Goodson had delivered the baby in the bathroom a few days earlier, then choked the baby to death.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Goodson's family or the baby's father will face any charges.

We are naming Goodson in accordance with our crime guidelines, as she is being charged as an adult.
