A Pinellas Park man says police used excessive force last week when they tased him for trying to spray water on his neighbor's burning house.

According to Bay News 9's partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, police ordered Dan Jensen to stop using the hose on the fire as it crept towards his Beechwood Terrace North property.

When firefighters still hadn't arrived a few minutes later, Jensen got the hose again.

That's when officers tased him.

Jensen's lawyer says he wasn't warned and under the law, officers have to tell someone before tasing them.

Police said they can sympathize with the stress Jensen, a 42-year-old commercial fisherman, was under. But they said he put himself and officers in danger when he refused to back down from fighting the fire.

Pinellas Park Capt. Sanfield Forseth said authorities could have even charged Jensen with obstruction, but decided against it.
