Whether they were in the market for a nice stocking stuffer or something to tuck under the Christmas tree, business owners like Michele Northrup tried to pull shoppers out of big box stores and into home grown businesses to get those gifts on Saturday.

“We’re doing the same style Black Friday specials but guess what? Your money is here in our community. It’s supporting local and that makes all the difference,” said Michele Northrup of Intensity Academy Sauces.

The organization “Localshops1” brought more than 100 local businesses together for “Shopapalooza," a way for Bay area retailers to get their products out and not lose clientele to Black Friday.

“By combining forces, what they’re offering is just as big as what the big box stores are offering,” said LocalShops1 founder Ester Venouziou.

“You find unique things you can’t find anywhere else and it supports the local economy,” said Maddy Guenther of “Bo-Tiki.”

A portion of the proceeds raised from Shopapalooza will go to the St. Pete Dream Center.

If you missed Shopapalooza, LocalShops1 offers a membership card to score great discounts at hundreds of local restaurants, shops and service providers.
