Volunteers at Meals on Wheels in Tampa are used to helping others. But this time, they're on the receiving end.

Sweetbay Supermarket donated a new van to transport hot and cold lunches and dinners to seniors in need across the Bay area.

"We have two other vans, but both older and somewhat in disrepair," said Director Steve King.

The van brings the meals to the 15 drop off points for volunteers in Tampa. From there, they are brought to seniors. Without the van, volunteers would have to drive to the agency's headquarters off Hillsborough Avenue.

"It'll certainly be easier to get things where they need to be. This van will allow us to feed more people," said King.

Sweetbay also donated enough money to feed 10,400 seniors.

Volunteer Amy Shimberg knows how important the donation is to the community. She's been delivering meals every Wednesday for 27 years.

"It's a big step, a necessary, super thing," she said.
