Thomas Matheson, 28, of New Port Richey was arrested for child abuse Tuesday night. Investigators say he twisted a toddler's nipples so hard they came off.
A disturbing case of child abuse is under investigation in Pasco County.
According to investigators, 28-year-old Thomas Matheson of New Port Richey was arrested Tuesday night after twisting a 2-year-old boy's nipples so hard they came off.
Deputies say Matheson was watching the boy while the boy's mother was at work.
Matheson allegedly admitted to investigators he played rough with the boy. But Matheson said he didn't become aware of the injuries until hours later when the toddler's grandmother came home and called the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
The boy was rushed to North Bay Hospital and treated for his injuries.
Doctors say it is unlikely the nipples will grow back.
Matheson was charged with child abuse and is being held at the Land O' Lakes Jail without bail.
