Investigators say a tree branch caused a fatal accident for a bicyclist in Pinellas County on Sunday

Henry Ellowitz, 69, of Clearwater was riding east on the Dunedin Causeway about 4:15 p.m. when it happened.

Witnesses told investigators Ellowitz had just crossed over the top of the drawbridge when the tree limb became lodged in his spokes, throwing him from the bike.

A nurse and EMT passing by stopped to help, but Ellowitz was unresponsive. He was taken to Mease Dunedin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:16 p.m.

Both directions of the causeway were shut down for about 20 minutes.
