Things went smoothly at the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Election office Tuesday night although there were some rough patches earlier in the day.

A blown transformer caused a power outage and briefly brought voting to a halt shortly before 4 p.m. at the Robert L. Gilder Elections Service Center, located on Falkenburg Road in Tampa.

A back-up generator provided power to some parts of the building. Election officials stopped letting people in for a while for safety reasons.

The elections office wasn't a precinct polling place so it didn't have a major impact on voting.

Supervisor of Elections Earl Lennard said the computers, voting equipment and phone bank were not interrupted during the outage.

The voters who were already in line were given placeholders.

A short while later, officials said they were going to let a few people in at a time to vote.

TECO said 600 customers were without power in the area.
