Nearly 400 students are receiving degrees from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg this evening. The graduation ceremony will take place at the Mahaffey Theater.

At the ceremony, one of the college graduates will get a double honor when he walks across the stage.

Daniel Boyd is receiving the school's "Outstanding Graduate Award."

The 35-year-old accounting major has spent the last five years juggling two businesses and a full course load. And recently, his wife had a baby.

But USF Professors were most impressed by Boyd's school leadership.

"In addition to having a high GPA, he's volunteered in the community and become kind of a cheerleader for USF St. Petersburg," said Susan Allen, USF St. Petersburg's president of the Faculty Senate.

Boyd said he just wants to succeed after college.

"When I went to school, I realized that I'm older than everybody else," Boyd said. "I'm a non-traditional student. I didn't want to give a future employer any reason not to hire me, so I kind of realized when I went back to school, I need to do anything I could to finish at the top if possible."

Boyd said he applied for the award but was surprised to get it.

After graduating, Boyd will intern at an accounting firm. Then, he plans to return to school for his MBA.
