A mother is charged with child neglect after leaving her 5-month-old baby in her car while she shopped for nearly a half an hour, deputies say.

Deputies say the incident happened Wednesday at a Brooksville Marshall’s.

An employee of the store called deputies to report a baby crying in an unattended vehicle.

An announcement was made in the store and Sarah Kabani Ali, 26, told deputies it was her car.

Deputies say she told them she only left the vehicle and child unattended for five minutes because she had to use the restroom and do some quick shopping.

Deputies say the in-store surveillance video however shows the child was left in the vehicle unattended for 28 minutes.

The defendant was then transported to the Hernando County Detention Center without incident. The child was turned over to the defendant's sister.
