Pet adoptions are on the rise this holiday season.

Officials from the SPCA of Florida in Lakeland said they saw record numbers of people looking to adopt a pet.

They said this week alone, more than 100 cats and dogs got new homes.

One family waited in a long line to adopt a new puppy.

"We wanted to get an animal that didn’t have a home already," Jerry Tidwell said. "We bought a couple animals from breeders but just thought this would be a great thing to do.

The SPCA has reduced fees to make adoption easier and more affordable.

The group is trying to raise money to update its facility.
