Chemicals to make methamphetamine were found in a Sarasota County condo, where fire had broken out Tuesday morning.

Seven firefighters were taken to a local hospital due to possible exposure to chemicals through the skin, while others were having difficulty breathing.

The fire broke out in an unoccupied unit at the Lido Regency Condominium on Ben Franklin Drive at Lido Beach at 8:30 a.m.

When firefighters put out the blaze, investigators said they found chemicals in the 12th-floor unit, which they they said were used to make methamphetamine.  They said they also found tanks containing oxygen and other compressed gases.

The State Fire Marshal is now investigating the cause of the fire.

More than 50 residents were evacuated to a nearby hotel.  They will remain there until officials determine it is safe to re-enter the building.
