Pasco County is slated to receive $800,000 from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development for a new homeless facility.

The money will also go towards two new apartment vouchers and a drug treatment program

One of the largest pieces of the grant, $250,000, will open a long-term housing facility on Chancey Road.

The Tampa-based Agency for Community Treatment Services will run the 15-bed facility.

It will house residents for six months.

The agency will also provide case management and life skills services, refer people to drug treatment, mental health counseling and job training.

The county has paid to purchase and renovate the current building at the site. This new money will pay for its first year of operations.

Executive Director of the Homeless Coalition of Pasco Eugene Williams says he expects funding to continue in future years.

Federal officials say the money is geared toward a new model of treating homelessness that included finding permanent shelter.
