Five weeks after his last sermon at Grace Connection Church, Pastor Tim Kelley spoke before his congregation Sunday.

“I titled this morning’s message, 'Lessons from Great Loss,' " he said. "What do you learn five weeks from losing your precious daughter that you’ve had for 20 years? Well, I’m not sure I’ve learned much.”

Last month his daughter Hannah was shot in the head by a gun that was being shown in a church closet by church member Moises Zambrana. Hannah later died from her injury.

The first message that Pastor Kelley delivered this Sunday was one you could see, as he brought Zambrana and his family to the stage, and put one arm around his shoulder as the pastor prayed.

“It’s a bittersweet moment," Kelley said. "It’s a day of healing, a day of recognition, a day of remembering. It’s a day of reconciliation, it’s a day of forgiveness and restoration."

The sanctuary was full. Congregation members say they are thankful to have their pastor back with them.

“He lives, walks and talks what he preaches. He doesn’t teach you one thing, then go out and do something else.” Geno Walborn said.

Kelley's wife was watching from home though. The pain still too recent and vivid at the church. Pastor Kelley says he still hasn’t been back to the part of the church where the accident happened.

“I’m not sure when, if ever, I’ll go back to that half of the building” Kelley said.

It was also the Zambranas first day back at the church. They didn’t speak to the media, but they did give a written statement:

“We are honored to be reunited with the Kelleys and Grace Connection Church Body. Hannah is a friend to all of us. She called me Mr. Moises when I met her over 11 years ago and I’m still Mr. Moises to her at 20 years old. We miss Hanna’s earthly presence every day and not a day or moment goes by that Hannah, Jasper and the Kelley family are not on our minds and prayers. However even with the pain, we rejoice in knowing that Hannah is in heaven alive and well and that one day very soon we will be reunited with Hannah in glory. This accident is never to be forgotten so that many can come to Christ and Hannah’s legacy may continue. I love Hannah, my family loves Hannah and she will always be with us. I love you Hannah. - Mr. Moises.”

Pastor Kelley aid that while it will take time to learn the purpose for the accident that took his daughter's life, he has learned one thing in the short time since.

“God wants us to treat every moment that he gives us as valuable and every moment as precious because every moment is,” Kelley said.
