A rally brought more than 900 people to the 34th Street Church of God in Tampa Tuesday night in support of Trayvon Martin's family.

It's the latest in what's become a nationwide outcry to arrest the man who shot the Sanford teen last month.

Extended family members of the 17-year-old live in Tampa.

"Even though he's from Miami and we're from Tampa, our families are very, very close," said Carol Lewis, Trayvon Martin's mom's first cousin.

Martin's Tampa family says they're pleasantly surprised by all the attention this case is getting.

"Our family never thought the death of our loved one would just explode like it has," said Carolyn Williams.

Tampa City Council Member Frank Reddick organized the rally. He said he did it because of Tampa's close proximity to Sanford and he wanted the Martin family to know they have support in the Bay area.

He asked leaders from all over Hillsborough County to speak. The president of the NAACP called for a boycott of Sanford.

Natasha Goodely said she showed up because she believes George Zimmerman should be arrested.

"I've actually been to all the rallies,” Goodely said. “I've tried to participate in as many as possible. I think it's a worthy cause."

Lewis says they're not going to stop until they get justice.

"As my cousin Sabrina stresses and stress, let’s keep this fight going but we want a peaceful, peaceful movement," Lewis said.

The rally was also a call for action. On the back of the program were phone numbers and email addresses for Governor Rick Scott, the U.S. Attorney General, the State Attorney's Office and the Sanford City Manager just to name a few.

The rally comes on the heels of huge gatherings in Sanford and across the nation.

A crowd of close to 1,000 people marched to the intersection of N Dale Mabry Highway and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Tampa on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Pinellas County, the People's Democratic Uhuru Movement plans a 'March for Trayvon' next Saturday at 11 a.m. The march will start at Uhuru House, 1245 18th Ave. S and ends at City Hall, 175 Fifth St. N. For more information, call (727) 821-6620.
