A Bay area doctor is out on bond after he was arrested on 33 counts of child porn possession.

Tampa Police took James Murphy, 49, into custody Wednesday night.

Murphy has worked at Bayfront Medical Center since 2005 as an anesthesiologist.

Acting on a tip in February, police conducted a search warrant at Murphy’s home.

Officers removed numerous electronic devices, which included an iMac computer taken from the suspect's bedroom. Police say the hard drive contained 33 images of child pornography.

Detectives say Murphy has not been accused of touching any children. But police say finding a Stranger Danger video in Murphy’s bedroom raised a red flag.

“In Dr. Murphy’s case, we became alarmed when we found evidence of videos like ‘Stranger Danger’ where you make kids aware of people like that," said Tampa Police Sgt. Bill Todd. "I don’t know if he was contemplating that. But I don’t understand an explanation for a gentleman in his 40s to have that, so it’s a red flag to us.“

According to Bayfront spokesperson Emily Nipps, hospital officials are still trying to sort out the facts of the case.

“We have never had any issues with him,” Nipps said.

Murphy has been placed on administrative leave. He posted bond at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
