An 18-year-old Tampa man is in jail on arson charges, accused of setting his mother's home ablaze after pouring gasoline on her bed and igniting it.

Aldwin Chrystian Caceres was arrested Saturday on misdemeanor domestic abuse charges for head-butting his mother, Alba Marrero. After his release, Tampa police said, Caceres went to Marrero's house on the 9400 block of 17th Street early Sunday and set the fire.

"All I got left is the car and the clothes I had on last night," said Marrero.

According to police, a witness said he saw Cacares pour gasoline on Marrero's mattress and light the bed.  Marrero said the whole incident started over a cell phone and turned violent.

"I broke the phone and he got more mad and then he grabbed me and threw me on the bed."

Marrero said she was head butted by son but was able to get to her car and drive away before he set the place on fire.

Tampa Fire Rescue crews responded and extinguished the fire, but the dwelling was a total loss. No injuries were reported from the fire.

Police say that Caceres, known as "Chrys" to his friends, told them he got into a domestic dispute with his mother and that he admitted to pouring the gasoline on the bed and on two couches in the living room and starting the fire.

The teen's mother told Bay News 9 that Caceres is sick and needs help.

"He's going to get help, too, because he is sick. Something is wrong with him, but I don't know what," Morrero added.
