The 18-year-old man accused of burning down his family's home during the weekend is scheduled to make his first appearance in court today.

Aldwin Chrystian Caceres was arrested Saturday on misdemeanor domestic abuse charges for head-butting his mother, Alba Marrero. According to Tampa police said, while arguing with his mother Alba Marrero early Sunday, Caceres poured gas on her bed and set it on fire.

Caceres is facing charges of domestic battery and arson. Officials said the incident began with a argument in which Caceres became enraged when his mother broke his cell phone.

"I kept talking to him let me go,'' Marrero said. "(To) get off of me and he said, 'No I won't let you go until you stay very still.'"

Marrero was able to escape the home before the home was on fire.

Tampa Fire Rescue crews responded and extinguished the fire, but the dwelling was a total loss. No injuries were reported from the fire.
