The 7-week-old Port Richey infant burned in scalding hot water has died.

Emilio Jesus Bautista was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with severe second-degree burns after his 18-year-old mother allegedly held him under running hot water because he wouldn't stop crying Monday night.

The child died Saturday at Tampa General Hospital, according to Pasco County Sheriff's spokesperson Kevin Doll.

Pasco County Sheriff's detectives said Chekayla Ariel Dampier, of Port Richey, disciplined the infant boy by holding him under hot water in a bathtub. She remains in jail on $150,000. Officials have not announced if Dampier's charge will be upgraded following the child's death.

Detectives said she admitted to noticing some of the baby's skin bubbling and peeling it off when she took him out of the tub.

Detectives said Dampier walked into the North Bay Hospital Emergency Room on Monday night with her baby boy, Emilio Bautista. The infant was burned so badly, he was flown to Tampa General Hospital. Detectives said Dampier first blamed others for the boy's injuries, before admitting to the holding the boy under the hot water.

According to her public Facebook page, Dampier graduated from Tampa's Sickles High School in 2010. Dampier stated on her Facebook page that she loved the baby and announced the baby's birth on the page.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Dampier had no history of abuse prior to her arrest.

Dampier was arrested Tuesday night, following an investigation. She was booked into the Land O' Lakes Detention Center on a charge of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm.
