A Pinellas County family is anxiously waiting to find out whether Florida's controversial Stand Your Ground law will protect the person who shot their loved one last month.

Brandon Baker of Palm Harbor was shot and killed during a road rage incident at 2 a.m. on March 6.

The shooter, Seth Browning, told authorities Baker's driving was erratic. Browning said he followed Baker to take down his license plate. According to authorities, Baker, who was driving ahead of his twin brother in another car, stopped on an access road off East Lake Road and walked towards Browning's car to find out why Browning was following him.

Browning pepper-sprayed and then fatally shot Baker.

Browning later told authorities Baker had punched him and he feared for his life. Browning hasn't been arrested.

Baker's family is devastated.

"It's been hard," said Brandi Baker, Brandon's sister. "He was a good guy."

Now, the victim's family has created an online petition called Justice for Brandon Baker.

They're encouraging people to go online and add their signatures. They hope all the support will encourage lawmakers to clear up loopholes in the Stand Your Ground law.

"There's just so much gray area, so much area for manipulation." Kevin Lindsay, Brandon's father, said.

The family believes those loopholes are what's keeping Baker's shooter out of jail.

"I want them to see that this law is dangerous, that a lot of people are going to try and take the law into their own hands ... that if this guy isn't arrested, maybe we could help save other lives," Brandi Baker said.

Currently, the State Attorney's office and the Pinellas County Sheriff's office are conducting investigations to determine whether Browning is protected under Stand Your Ground.

As Baker's family members wait for an answer, they've already collected thousands of signatures. They're also planning a benefit to raise money to pay for Brandon's funeral. The benefit will be held at Rudy's Sports Bar in Largo on April 22 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
