A Lakeland couple killed in a deadly rollover crash on Interstate 4 in Plant City may have been cut off, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.

The victims, Michael Bennett, 36, and Letara Bennett, 32, of Lakeland, were ejected from the SUV near Alexander Street. The couple died from injuries sustained in the rollover crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to the FHP, an unidentified vehicle cut off the SUV, causing the SUV's driver to swerve and over-correct. The SUV hit a box truck and rolled over, ejecting the couple.

The crash occurred just after 6:10 a.m. Wednesday and backed up traffic in the westbound lanes of the interstate for roughly six miles for more than three hours. Two blocked lanes were reopened just before 9:30 a.m.

The driver who may have cut the couple off fled the scene. Troopers are asking the public's help identifying the driver.

The vehicle is described only as a dark colored compact car. Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the FHP at 813-631-4020
