The Pinellas County Sheriff released a lot more information about a Palm Harbor man accused of procuring teenage runaway prostitutes and giving them meth.

“These 16-year-olds engaged in these prostitution activities at least 10 times,” said Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.

James Perdue, 61, helped those teens set up classified sex ads on a website, according to Gualtieri.

"Two-for-one, if you will, two for a $150.”

Perdue was arrested on Wednesday for procuring a person under 18 for prostitution, sexual performance by a child, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Perdue made his first appearance before a Pinellas judge today who kept the defendant's bond at $32,150.

“Your total bond is $30,000 and some," said the judge. "Can you make it Mr. Perdue?”

“If I can get in contact with my people I can,” Perdue responded.

Gualtieri said detectives began investigating Perdue earlier this year when they got complaints from neighbors about young teenage girls coming and going from his home located at 665 9th St., in Palm Harbor.

"On May 12, of this year, detectives observed a 16-year-old female with Perdue in a vehicle,” he said. "They surveilled them as they went over to Tampa and arrived at a motel in the Dale Mabry area.”

Gualtieri said the detectives watched as Perdue and the teen went into a motel room. The Pinellas detectives called Tampa Police and when officers arrived they entered that room.

"She had various changes of bathing suits with her and Perdue was in boxer shorts at the time," Gualtieri said. "First, Perdue claimed that she was his daughter and was giving a lot of false information.”

According to Gualtieri, this was not the first time deputies have found Perdue with a runaway teen. In 2007, Perdue was pulled over for a traffic violation.

"At that time, he had a young girl in the vehicle and she was about 14 or 15-year-old," he said. "He also had marijuana in the car."

Gualtieri said when Perdue was being arrested, the deputy found a sex toy on him, "As detectives were searching him, he had strapped onto his body a simulated genitalia of a male that was very large."

Perdue was also arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor but that charge was later dropped due to lack of evidence.

On his current charges, the Sheriff said Perdue denies he was a pimp for the teens.

“He admitted that he had been involved with these girls. He admitted he showed them how to place the ads on backpage," Gualtieri said. "He admitted to transporting them but then tried to deny that he was their active sponsor if you will. He also admitted that the girls received drugs sometimes for payment for the prostitution and he would share in using those drugs with these girls.”

Detectives said the runaways are from Perdue's neighborhood and believe there's more victims in the North Pinellas area.

"We’re asking the public’s help and their parents help to come forward and provide information,” Gualtieri said.
