A judge has granted a motion to let Hulk Hogan's son off probation a year early.

Nick Bollea was on probation stemming from a 2007 car accident. His friend, John Graziano, suffered critical brain injuries in the crash.

In 2008, Bollea pleaded no contest to reckless driving with serious bodily injury. The judge sentenced Bollea to five years of probation. Bollea has served four years.

Today, Judge Philip Federico said he let Bollea off early because he has done all of his community service hours, stayed out of trouble and completed 80-percent of his five-year probation.

Judge Federico said he's not going to treat Bollea differently than anyone else.

Last year, a judge denied a request to end Bollea’s probation early, stating Bollea violated the spirit of the sentence when he got a driver's license in California.

Bollea, who currently lives in California, was not in court today. Bollea's attorney, Kevin Hayslett, called Bollea after the hearing to let him know that he's now a free man.

"He said he is elated to finally be off probation,” Hayslett said. “He said it's been a long four years and he said words can't describe how he feels. And he also wanted me to let you all know that John Graziano continues to be in his heart and in his mind."

Clearwater Police say Bollea was street racing and speeding at the time of the crash. The Graziano family sued the Bolleas and settled for an undisclosed sum.

“(Bollea has) done a lot of growing up, he’s done a lot of maturing,” Hayslett said. “He maintains he was never racing. What matters is he took responsibility, he did his jail sentence, he did his probation, he did his conditions, and he also moved in a different direction and you don’t find him on the track anymore.”

Part of Bollea’s probation was not to drink any alcohol. Hayslett said even though Bollea's now 21-years-old, Bollea does not plan to celebrate with a drink tonight.

The 2007 car accident was recently brought up again when John Graziano's brother, Michael Graziano, died after sustaining injuries in an eerily similar crash.

In both crashes, the Graziano brothers were passengers and neither wore a seatbelt.

No charges have been filed in the crash involving Michael, but the accident remains under investigation.

Michael Graziano's father, Ed, was handed a 10-year prison sentence last year after being charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill his estranged wife Debra.
